“The program is diverse and true to the mercurial nature of jazz,” said Shao Way Wu, director of this year’s Jazz Combos. Five small ensembles will perform tunes in a range of styles, including swing, Latin, hard bop, funk and both early and modern jazz, as well as original compositions.

In its largest delegation to date, the Model United Nations program at Humboldt State University’s Department of Politics sent 31 students to San Francisco for the 2009 five-day intercollegiate simulation of the U.N., where they garnered five Meritorious Delegation Awards. Humboldt State students in the Model United Nations program won four Meritorious Delegation Awards and finished among the top three performers for the second year running at the recent Model United Nations of the Far West Conference in San Francisco. The awards recognize outstanding academic preparation for, and participation in, the conference. HSU International Studies major Jonathan Linton was named Rappateur, or best delegate, in the economic and financial committee.
