University of California Awards Cal Poly Humboldt Researchers $2.6 in State-funded Grants to Spur Climate Action
Through a historic partnership between the University of California and the state of California, research by two Cal Poly Humboldt professors is among dozens of projects awarded a total of $80 million in climate action grants.

“Once you’ve wrestled, everything else in life is easy.” This saying is known to everyone who’s hit the mat and wrestled at one point or time. For Virgil Moorehead (‘83, Education), Craig Vejvoda (‘80, Business Administration), and Dan Phillips (‘91, Business and Computer Information Systems), who were members of the Humboldt wrestling community, it’s true.
Playing video games was always a way for Jade Takimoto-Soriano ('16, International Studies) and her family to connect and spend time together. Her love for video games has come full circle as she is now the recruiter of diversity and Inclusion at Bad Robot Games, a video game company founded by renowned filmmaker J.J. Abrams, who made films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mission Impossible, and Star Trek.
Through the proceeds of a real estate transaction, real estate agent Joyce West and her friend Pamela Kelley created the Pamela J. Kelley and Joyce M. West Scholarship Endowment for scholarships to Cal Poly Humboldt basketball players.
The Humboldt Alumni Scholarship is a testament to the dedication of Cal Poly Humboldt's alumni in supporting current students.

There's a long chain linking CalFire and Cal Poly-Humboldt... plenty of students have graduated from the university and gone to work for CalFire as firefighters or in other capacities. Now the school and the agency are formalizing their relationship, with an agreement to work together in more areas, to provide better educations for students and better-trained workers for CalFire.
