Story (500 Words Max)

The Department of Anthropology invites you to a talk with HSU Anthropology Alumna Dr. Jennifer Cavalari, DO, Co-Founder and Director of SELF (Sustainable Empowerment Leadership Organization), an international non-profit organization that engages with collaborative community aid projects in Honduras.

Dr. Cavalari will be at HSU on March 19, 2018 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room to discuss global medicine, anthropology in action, and opportunities for going on an international service trip.

Jennifer Cavalari is a proud alumni of the Humboldt State Anthropology program. She went on to become a physician, trained in Integrative Family Medicine. She also founded a nonprofit organization with her best friend who is a Honduran Nurse, Moika Vallecillo, who has over 10 years of experience in global health. Their nonprofit, Sustainable Empowerment Leadership Foundation (SELF), takes a very broad approach to healthy communities, including providing direct healthcare services with teams of international volunteers, mostly from North America, as well as education, microenterprises and clean water projects.

They are very interested in working with students and professionals at all levels to support their goals of creating sustainable healthy communities in rural Honduras, while also empowering volunteers and creating global citizens and young community leaders.
