Story (500 Words Max)

The 51st Humboldt Int’l Film Fest will hold its annual four-night event at the historical Minor Theatre in Arcata from April 18-21. The finalists in four categories will have two screenings nightly at 5:00pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are $5.00 from April 18-20 and $10.00 on April 21 for the Best of Fest screenings.

Since 1967, students of Humboldt State University have been producing the internationally recognized festival. The call-to-entry is open to independent filmmakers of all ages and countries for films with a running time 1-30 minutes in Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Experimental categories. This year, 195 entries from 22 countries were submitted including films from Argentina, Spain, Japan, China, Poland, Korea, Iran, Mexico, Turkey, India, Norway, Korea, Italy, and Kosovo. Film festival classes pre-screen all entries. The films with the highest scores in all four categories compete for cash awards and Audience Favorite Awards.

Joining this year’s festival as industry judges are Patricia Cardoso, who directed Real Women Have Curves, Audience Award winner at Sundance Film Festival; Udi Aloni, Israeli-American filmmaker whose film Junction 48 won the Jury Award for Best International Narrative Feature at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival; and screenwriter, filmmaker Hal Masonberg who directed the award winning documentary Jazz Nights. They will host the second screenings nightly with a Q&A to follow.
