Dr. Chris Lowe, California State University, Long Beach will present “Recovery of white sharks off California and what this means for coastal communities”.
There is growing evidence of population recovery of white sharks in the Northeast Pacific due to protection and recovery of adult prey. Southern California is used as primary nursery habitat for juvenile white sharks that are growing more common along coastal beaches through the summer and fall months, putting them in close proximity to large numbers of people recreating in these areas. We are studying the behavior and
ecology of white sharks along the coast of California and are using that information to educate water safety personnel and the public about sharks in coastal water and any associated risks
