Former San Francisco Chronicle and current ESPN investigative journalist Mark Fainaru-Wada will visit Humboldt State on Oct. 28 to offer his perspective on the NFL and brain trauma issues that he and a colleague exposed.
Fainaru-Wada will speak at 4 p.m. in the Great Hall above Campus Marketplace. He and his brother, Steve Fainaru-Wada, authored the book "League of Denial" that brought to light the NFL's cover-up of players' serious concussion problems.
In their book, "Game of Shadows," Fainaru-Wada and colleague Lance Williams also exposed the steroid scandal that marred the career of baseball star Barry Bonds and prompted a Major League Baseball investigation. In 2006, both reporters were issued subpoenas to testify before a grand jury, but refused to not reveal their sources.
"League of Denial" was the basis of a 2013 Frontline documentary by the same name.
