“Hey, you, get off my cloud.
You don’t know me and you don’t know my style.
Who be gettin’ flam when they come to a jam?
Here I am, here I am, the Method Man.”
– From “M.E.T.H.O.D. Man” by Method Man
“The top notch of hip-hop and I’m on the charts.
I’m catchin’ applause when I rock the microphone from the heart.
My style’s foul, so look into the eyes of Lorimars.
As you can see, I drop funk bars from here to Mars.”
– From “Bobyahed2dis” by Redman
Method Man and Redman will perform at the Arcata Community Center on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. Evidence, an MC from the hip-hop group Dilated People’s and Alchemist, a producer and DJ who has worked with Snoop Dogg and Linkin Park, will open the show.
Method Man, birth name Clifford Smith, came to prominence in 1993 as a member of the highly influential hip-hop group the Wu-Tang Clan. He released his first solo album in late 1994 and quickly became the Clan’s breakout star. He went on to release four more solo albums, a duo album with Redman titled Blackout! and starred in the 2001 comedy How High, also with Redman. He is preparing to release a new album, Crystal Method, and currently has recurring roles on two television series: CSI and The Wire.
Redman, birth name Reggie Noble, appeared on the scene in 1992 with his debut, Whut? Thee Album. Five solo albums followed, all of them selling at least 500,000 copies to be certified gold, as well as major roles in the movies Seed of Chucky and, with Method Man, How High.
Both MCs hail from the East Coast and were part of that region’s hip-hop revival during the 1990s. With lyrics that range from gritty and street-wise to eccentric and witty, the duo performed live together previously on the Hard Knock Life Tour with headliner Jay-Z in 1999. Method Man and Redman have confirmed rumors that they are busy working on a sequel to How High and recording Blackout! 2, both of which are due out in early 2009.
