Scott Hagg, Director of Admissions, said the economic downturn is yet another reason for Redwood Coast families and students to pick up significant savings by attending college close to home.
“And California State University remains one of the best education buys in the country,” he added.
Admissions officials emphasize that the enrollment cap instituted system-wide recently by California State University does not entail an early cutoff at Humboldt State. “We encourage students to apply now and make arrangements for financial aid promptly,” Hagg said, “but they have until March 1 to apply and March 2 to submit forms to seek financial assistance.”
Although enrollment caps are in place at some CSU campuses, many continue to accept applications for the 2009/2010 academic year, including Sacramento State and CSU Stanislaus. “But for students wanting to limit transportation and other expenses, Humboldt State is ideal for local and regional college-bound students,” Hagg noted.
Students can apply online by visiting www.csumentor.edu. The Admissions Office will contact students if their transcripts are needed. Admissions offers a one-stop application page that also enables students to register for on-campus housing and submit a financial aid request. The first step for financial assistance is filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online at the Financial Aid Web site, listed at www.csumentor.edu. Students and families are encouraged to complete the form as soon as possible but the deadline is March 2 for priority review. The Financial Aid Office can be reached at (866) 255-1390.
For Fall 2009, HSU is accepting freshmen, all transfers, post-baccalaureate and returning students. Details are available at (866) 850-9556 or apply@humboldt.edu.
Humboldt State’s Spring Preview is scheduled for April 17-18, 2009 and details will be posted in January at the Admissions Web site.
