She also leads in home runs, with nine, and RBIs, with 48. Klug and Chrissy Motzny lead the team in stolen bases, going 14-for-16 and 8-for-8, respectively. …The NCAA West Region poll and NFCA national rankings are both due out Wednesday.
Opponents’ Notes: Sonoma State took only one game from Chico State on the road last weekend, earning a 2-0 shutout to move to 15-27 overall and 3-19 in the CCAA. The Seawolves currently hold ninth place in conference standings. … SSU has two athletes batting over .300, while the team holds a .239 batting average. Dani Lopez leads the team with 14 RBIs on the season, and following close behind is Nicole Cordova with 12, while Brittany Simao and Megan Ochylski have tallied 11. … “Sonoma State is capable of fooling you,” said Humboldt State head softball coach Frank Cheek. “Sonoma has no pressure going into this weekend, so they have nothing to lose. We are more vulnerable. The Seawolves have just run into some bad luck with their big hitters getting injured this year.”
Head-to-Head: HSU leads the all-time series record against Sonoma State with an 86-16 record. The Jacks defeated the Seawolves at the two teams’ last meeting, taking a 4-3 decision on April 1, 2007.
Cheek’s Thoughts: “We had some outstanding performances last weekend. I was very impressed with Lizzy’s (Prescott) stamina. She fell into some jeopardy in all four games but was able to work her way out of it and hold her composure. That showed why she is a two-time All-American.” … “I’m pleased with our hitters. They were able to hit an outside pitch and hit the ball with power. (Caitlin) Klug hit her grand slam off of an outside pitch.” … “We had some great plays this weekend; especially the relay triple down the right field line, when Lindsay Warren hit Klug and Klug sent the ball to Francesca West at third to get the runner out. UC San Diego’s coaches were correct to have the girl go to third, because there is only a two percent chance of that play getting the runner out. We were just lucky to be able to complete it and make that play. It was a phenomenal play.” … We’re in the top 10 in nationals again and I believe we have solidified our position in the West Region at No. 1.”
