The on-campus performance is scheduled Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room, University Center.
Students enrolled in the course investigated the lives and work of 19th and 20th century African American artists, wrote monologues and dialogues based on this research, created illustrated biographies, and collaboratively produced Midnight Hour. The famous Harlem nightclub is the backdrop for the monologues and dialogues written by the students in EDUC 680 over the two semesters.
The performance features conversations and musings of an eclectic mix of visual artists, singers, writers and poets, and is woven together with live and recorded music, spoken word and video images. Ma Rainey, Elizabeth Catlett, Gil Scott-Heron, Scipio Moorehead and Jean Michel Basquiat are among the artistic sources.
Due to the adult topics and language used in the performance, it is not recommended for children.
