For the 26th year in a row, Cal Poly Humboldt is proudly celebrating International Education Week (IEW), a globally recognized and completely free event with more than 30 presentations and workshops happening on campus from Feb. 10-14.

This year’s theme is Interdisciplinary Solutions for Global Development. “As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who teaches development economics, I am especially excited for this year’s program,” says Beth Wilson, Economics professor and IEW program lead. “We have our keynote speaker and several featured speakers who have had long careers working on interdisciplinary teams to find holistic solutions to development challenges in agriculture, markets and finance, women empowerment, and international law!”

The series of events—made possible through a joint collaboration between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education—encourages students to build global connections and experiences. Students can learn about working with organizations such as the Peace Corps or State Department, and how to study and live abroad.

This year’s keynote speaker is Nelson Cronyn who will speak about his career that spans roles such as Peace Corps country director in six African nations, agricultural extension agent, and leader in organizations including the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

In addition to learning about international work, study, and living opportunities, there will be a series of hands-on workshops and performances including a global dance show, and presentations on topics ranging from sustainability and global development to the history of drinking and drunkenness in an international context.

Students who attend at least 15 IEW sessions can earn one unit of course credit through Anthropology, Communications, Economics, Geography, History, International Studies, or the Politics departments.

IEW is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the International Studies Department, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, and the Library.
