Lumberjacks Notes: Humboldt State’s up and down pattern of play continued last week with a flat effort against Chico State followed by an impressive outing against Cal State Stanislaus. The result was a split. …Despite scoring a season-low 37 points in the loss to Chico State, the Jacks still lead the league in points per game at 72.1. They’re also first in three-pointers per game with an average of 6.6 made. …Coach Joddie Gleason changed the lineup Saturday, inserting Taylor Kilgore and Luiza Osborne into starting roles. Osborne responded with nine points, six assists and five steals. Kilgore, who continues her recovery from a midseason illness, had four points and three assists without a turnover in 24 minutes of court time.… “We’re never certain about who will start until game time approaches,” Gleason said. “We don’t believe that starting means everything because we have a lot of players who contribute as starters and non-starters. In this instance, we just changed who was in at the beginning of the game because we felt like we had slow starts lately and wanted to mix it up.” …One formula the Lumberjacks will employ in their search for consistency is a greater emphasis on the post game. That means getting the ball inside via penetration or passes to Katie Franci, Kayla Henry, Brittney Taylor and others. “We’ll try to get the ball inside more and not rely on shots from the perimeter as much,” Gleason said. “If you rely too much on three-point shooting and the perimeter, it usually becomes a do-or-die scenario.” …The Lumberjacks will be without the services of senior Biava Arganda this week, who is currently ineligible.

Opponent’s Notes: Cal Poly Pomona is 7-7 overall and 4-4 in league, but has been on the upswing lately. The Broncos achieved an easy road win over CSU Stanislaus two weeks ago and defeated UC San Diego, 66-61, on the road last week. In between, they dropped a 78-64 decision to CSU San Bernardino. …Three players are scoring in double figures, led by freshman guard Reyana Colson’s 13.5 points per game. Senior forward Vanessa Dominguez averages 12.4 ppg, and junior guard Andrea Ohlssen averages 10.2. … Cal State San Bernardino enters the week with a 12-3 overall record, and stands second in league at 6-2. The Coyotes’ leading scorer is 6-1 senior center Vanessa Wilt, one of the CCAA’s premier players. Wilt leads the league in both scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (13.9 rpg).

Gleason’s Comments: “(Cal Poly) Pomona is playing very well right now. They’re really athletic, and they get in the passing lanes and pressure the ball. They force you to be patient on offense.” … “(CSU San Bernardino’s) Wilt is the best post player in the conference, and everybody focuses on trying to slow her down. But they also have some very good three-point shooters, which presents a challenge. We’ll try to force (Wilt) to take tougher shots and to deny her offensive rebounds.”
