Center Brings Career Fair to Campus

The Career Center presents the 4th annual "Career Expo and Volunteer Fair" at HSU Friday, Feb. 20 to help students get ready for the transition from school to career.

Over 80 employers and 35 community organizations will be represented in the KBR and the Goodwin Forum from 10 until 2 p.m. conducting informal interviews and taking applications.

Every year students find jobs and internships at this event—if they are prepared. The Career Center says preparation and presentation are two of the most important things to remember when attending a career fair.

To help students get ready the center is hosting a “How to Work the Career Expo” workshop Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Nelson Hall East 113.

Students will be guided in creating their own “60 Second Commercial”, sometimes known as the “elevator pitch,” and given tips on craft a winning resume.

The Career Center also reminds students that employers are looking for professional people to hire and first impressions make all the difference. A display in Siemans Hall showcases various professional outfits with college budgets in mind and links to Web sites with helpful wardrobe advice can be accessed through the center’s homepage.

Dress to impress and bring your resume says Amy Martin, Office Manager at the Career Center. “They definitely hire students at the event.”
