Change Cabinet Seeks Ideas

Humboldt State’s newly formed Cabinet for Institutional Change is looking for ideas – lots of them.

The Cabinet has an ambitious agenda that could impact most if not all areas of the campus. Cabinet members say the key to success will be marshalling the creative energy of the campus community.

To help, the group has created a number of ways to learn about their work, contact them and share ideas. Members will be hosting meetings on campus throughout the spring and fall semesters. They will also be visiting with various groups on campus, many of which are already working on related projects.

In addition, the Cabinet’s website has information about their priorities and a number of interactive features. It is at http://change.humboldt.edu">http://change.humboldt.edu and includes:

• a blog where Cabinet members post current updates and visitors are free to post comments.
• a “share your ideas” section, where visitors are encouraged to participate by submitting ideas, voting to show support for other ideas, and posting comments.
• a listing of all Cabinet members and their contact information, so visitors can send suggestions or comments directly to an individual.

Following the Cabinet’s campus forum before Spring Break, there have been questions about the “share your ideas” portion of the website. Here’s how to use it:

• Click on the “share your ideas” link at the Cabinet’s website.
• Select “signup” near the top right of the page.
• Register with a username and password (not your campus name/password)
• Read through ideas and vote to recommend ones you like. Or comment on one or more ideas. Don’t miss the links to different forums on the right.
• Submit a suggestion in one of the forums by entering a header under "My suggestion is ..."
• When a header is initially entered, the system searches for similar ideas, and offers the choice to “vote for one of these” or "create new idea."
• If “create a new idea,” is chosen, a longer description can be included under the header.

The Cabinet for Institutional Change is charged with initiating comprehensive reforms at Humboldt State. It was formed in response to issues raised during the current WASC reaccreditation process and at the recommendation of Keeling & Associates.

Its focus is on five areas: realizing our University vision; improving campus governance; achieving student success; creating a culture of evidence; and cultivating a collegial, respectful and responsive community.
