In one of the hottest commencement days in memory, Humboldt State University conferred degrees and credentials upon nearly 2,200 graduates in the Redwood Bowl last Saturday. You can view a special slide show of the Commencement 2008 here »

In addition to temperatures rising into the 80s and children frolicking in sprinklers and hoses trying to beat the heat, rousing charges were delivered to graduates at all three ceremonies by HSU Alumnus Michael Crooke (‘86, ‘89).

Crooke is founding chief executive officer of Revolution Living and former chief executive officer of Patagonia. He is a well-known advocate of building businesses that result in balanced and meaningful living. He also delivered the annual Chung-Watson business lecture at Humboldt State in 2006.

Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters were also conferred on Cheryl A. Seidner, Tribal Chair of the Wiyot Tribe and a 30-year staff member of the University’s Educational Opportunity Program, and HSU alumnus Michael Randolph Fielding (‘57, ’63), former senior partner of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, who helped to establish the Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation, which promotes private giving.
