Crime Alert Issued

A student walking alone across campus at about 10:55 PM on Sunday night November 25, 2007 was robbed by an unknown suspect who brandished a knife in a wooded parking lot near the foot of the Gist Hall staircase.

The student, who was not injured in the incident, surrendered personal property to the suspect, who fled on foot southbound through the campus parking lot.

University Police and Arcata Police are working together to identify and locate the suspect, who is described as a white male adult in his late 20’s or early 30’s, about 5’10” to 6’ tall with dark bushy eyebrows and pock marks on his cheeks and chin. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

A composite drawing of the suspect has been created and published, posted around campus, and UPD investigators are seeking the help of the public in identifying the suspect. Anyone who might have seen the suspect, or who as other information that might help investigators, is encouraged to call UPD at 826-5555. UPD reminds the campus community to use caution, be aware of their surroundings, to report suspicious persons and/or activity on the campus to University Police. There are more than 60 free public assistance “blue light” phones across the campus that allow instant emergency communication with UPD’s 24-hour dispatcher by dialing 9-1-1 or pushing the “help” button. Also, anyone on campus can call 826-5555 to request a personal safety escort. Uniformed UPD personnel will respond as soon as possible to provide a safety escort from place to place on the campus 24 hours a day.
