Cunha Honored By Soc. Studies Council

Humboldt State University Geography Professor Stephen Cunha was honored with the Hilda Taba Award at the California Council for Social Studies annual meeting in Oakland.

Humboldt State University Geography Professor Stephen Cunha was honored with the Hilda Taba Award at the California Council for Social Studies annual meeting in Oakland.

The award's namesake was a renowned pioneer in critical thinking and social studies concept development, and now the Taba Award is the highest honor bestowed by the CCSS. It recognizes professional contributions that significantly influence social studies education in California .

Cunha joined the HSU faculty in 1996. He also directs the California Geographic Alliance, supporting K-12 geography education throughout the state. Cunha’s professional career includes middle school, high school, community college and university teaching, and park ranger posts in Alaska and Yosemite.

He is also the State Coordinator for the National Geographic Bee.
