HSU’s volleyball team heads north for the Phoenix Inn GNAC Conference Challenge, hosted Friday and Saturday by Western Oregon in Monmouth. HSU faces its hosts at 1 p.m. Friday, then plays Western Washington at 8 p.m. later that day. Humboldt State’s participation concludes with two more matches Saturday, a 1 p.m. match against Central Washington and a 5 p.m. contest against Alaska Anchorage.
Both the women’s and men’s soccer teams travel further for competition, playing Seattle Pacific on Friday and Western Washington on Monday. HSU’s women start it off with 4:30 p.m. game agaisnt the SPU Falcons, followed by the men’s game against Seattle Pacific at 7 p.m. Friday.
After a couple of recovery days, HSU women’s soccer will be in Bellingham, Wash. for Monday’s noon game against WWU. The Jacks’ and Vikings’ men’s teams are slated for a 2:30 p.m. start in Civic Stadium.
Finally, the 2010 Lumberjack football team debuts Saturday with a 6 p.m. kick-off scheduled in San Luis Obispo. Humboldt State faces a formidable task in battling the Cal Poly Mustangs, the preseason No. 25 ranked team in the NCAA Division I FCS Coaches Poll.
Humboldt State’s cross country teams, under the direction of new head coach Scott Pesch, open their season a week later than the other fall sports. They’ll begin at the Cross Country Festival hosted by College of the Redwoods on Sept. 11.
