First Street Gallery Hosts Holiday Invitational Exhibit

HSU Alumni showcased in annual show
Humboldt State University’s First Street Gallery is excited to present the 2007 Holiday Invitational Exhibition. This is event brings together a powerful trio with HSU Alumni showcasing their talent, the students who manage and plan the show, and most of all, the north coast community members who continually support the First Street Gallery.

When we talked with the artists about their work on display and why they chose to participate in the Holiday Invitational, a theme started to form based on their own joy and experiences exhibiting at the First Street Gallery.

Exhibiting artists include Peggy Loudon who will present porcelain vases and bottles. She has chosen to participate in the exhibit because she believes that the First Street Gallery is a great venue and considers herself in good company with the other artists. Similarly, Justin Mitman, who will be exhibiting ceramic slip-cast pieces this year, shared his excitement to participate in a show with other note-worthy ceramic artists.

Teresa Oats loves the First Street Gallery and especially the Holiday Invitational, because it is a beautiful space to exhibit with other artists she loves. The professional energy the students bring to the show is another facet of working with the First Street Gallery that Oats appreciates. Oats will present oil on panel from her Mad River work.

Also presenting for the first time in the holiday show is Rachel Schleuter, who will be featuring her portrait work.

The full run-down of exhibits includes work on paper, ceramics, sculpture, painting and photography. Additional artists include Eric Pawloski, Michael Hayes, Stock Schleuter, Ginny Gromer, Scott North, Nancy Frazier, James Crawford, Lou Marak, Keith Schneider, Malia Landis, David Jordan and Tom Klaproth.

The holiday exhibition runs through Dec. 23. The First Street Gallery is located at 422 First Street Gallery in Old Town, Eureka, and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. For more information, call (707) 443-6363 or visit the gallery’s web site at www.humboldt.edu/~first.
