Following a busy weekend at home, all of HSU’s other fall sports take to the road. Men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and volleyball all begin the California Collegiate Athletic Association season, while men’s and women’s cross country race in the Bay Area.
Jacks resume GNAC action following two-year hiatus
Fans have waited patiently through the first two weeks of football season, eagerly anticipating the first home game for the 2008 Lumberjack football team. They’ll be rewarded on Saturday when Humboldt State plays its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference game since the football portion of the league reassembled following two years of dormancy.
UPDATE: Supporters of Humboldt State football are invited to celebrate the Lumberjacks’ first home game of the season at a special tailgate party scheduled prior to Saturday’s kickoff.
Fans are encouraged to gather in the parking lot north of the Student Business Services (SBS) building on campus at 4 p.m. The celebration will end prior the Jacks’ 6 p.m. game against Western Washington in Redwood Bowl.

Men’s Soccer tunes up, then opens league
One more tune-up remains for the HSU men’s soccer team, a quick trip to Lacey, Wash., for a non-conference game against St. Martin’s University on Friday. The Lumberjacks have a travel day before heading inland to Chico for the California Collegiate Athletic Association opener against Chico State.
Game time for the Jacks vs. Wildcats encounter is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
Women’s Soccer faces Saints, Wildcats
Like their male counterparts, the HSU women will go on the road for two games this week, first finishing the preseason portion of their schedule against St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash. Kickoff for the second game of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
The Lumberjacks return to California to begin league play Sunday, traveling to face Chico State at 11:30 a.m. in the CCAA opener.
Volleyball seeks CCAA success on the road
CCAA action gets in gear this week for the Humboldt State volleyball program with a pair of matches against Northern California rivals. The Lumberajcks travel to face Chico State at 7 p.m. Friday, then head down the road to Turlock for Saturday’s 7 p.m. match against Cal State Stanislaus.
Men’s cross country races in Oakland
A contingent of HSU men’s cross country runners heads to Oakland this week to participate in the Mills Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Lumberjack women’s squad will enjoy a week without racing after competing in three meets in the first two weeks of the season.
