Over the Homecoming & Family Weekend, Forever Humboldt honored 12 Humboldt State University alumni from the classes of ’67 and ’68 who reached a special milestone: They graduated 50+ years ago.

Each of them received a certificate of recognition and a Golden Grad medal at a Golden Graduate ceremony and brunch hosted by the Forever Humboldt office.

Margaret Allen (’67, Psychology) came from Seattle to attend the brunch and was proud to receive the Golden Grad medal.

“The medal is a beautiful symbol of a milestone, a reminder of all the good that I experienced while attending and the celebration of being on campus again with classmates,” she said.

Allen said she enjoyed being back on campus. “I like that the valued characteristics of Humboldt remain and that it’s more diverse. It is delightful to see that the beautiful campus, friendliness, relaxed vibe, and cultural uniqueness of Humboldt live on.”

Carole Sue Nichols-Johnson, who graduated in 1958, and her husband Donald Johnson, who graduated in 1959, enjoyed walking around campus, noticing how some things have changed and some things haven’t changed over the last 60 years.

“Many of our remembrances are literally ‘set in stone’ as the people we knew as administration, counselors, and professors are now the place names of buildings, rooms, and areas – Karshner, Van Duzer, Buchanan,  Siemens, Bullen, Fulkerson, and Balabanis, for example,” Nichols-Johnson said.
