Humboldt State University hosts the 23rd Annual Conference of the Sport Literature Association, Thursday, June 22 through Sunday, June 25, led by HSU's Craig Riordan, associate professor of recreation administration.
The SLA is an international organization created in the 1980s and devoted to the study of sports in literature and culture. An affiliate of the American Literature Association, the SLA has several hundred members worldwide and holds an annual conference in a different North American location each summer.
This week's get-together at HSU features the varied connections between sports and a multitude of issues, from feminism and politics to racism. It also will treat diverse literary forms: stories, novellas, novels, comedies and pulp.
