The day-long competition was hosted by California Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo. The HSU Logging Sports Team, composed of 34 students - majors ranging between kinesiology, rangeland resources, psychology, education and forestry - traveled from HSU for the one day competition.
The teams from HSU dominated the competition by taking numerous individual first, second, and third places.
Tyler Geist received the Bull of the Woods award by having scored the total highest points in the men's competition. Tori Gervasi tied for first place in the Belle of the Woods when she and a student from Cal Poly scored the highest total points in the women's competition. HSU's B team took 1st place in the overall competition and Team A took 3rd place overall. Numerous first, second and third place honors were earned by HSU students in individual events such as timber cruising, caber toss, climbing, double buck, traverse, chopping and Jack and Jill events.
The team will continue practicing each weekend during each semester in preparation for the Western States competition which will be held at the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho during Spring Break 2007.
