Jacks softball ranked No. 6

Arcata — Three days before the Jacks kick off their 2008 season, Humboldt State was picked No. 6 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.

The Lumberjacks finished their 2007 season with an overall 56-8 record, while posting a 29-3 California Conference Athletic Association record, losing only to CSU San Bernardino, UC San Diego and CS Bakerfield. HSU entered the West Region Division II Tournament as the No. 1 seed, after taking the CCAA regular season and tournament titles, but was knocked out by Seattle University.

Other West Region teams listed in the preseason NFCA Top 25 Poll are, CS Stanislaus at No. 10 and Seattle University at No. 18.

The Jacks begin play Friday at the Mizzuno Best of the West Classic in Turlock, where they open against CSU San Bernardino.
