Madrigal Singers Cap Big HSU Music Weekend

It's a mad Madrigal world as the HSU Madrigal Singers in Renaissance costume present a program of traditional carols, madrigals, solos and duets to usher in the holiday season on Sunday, December 3rd at 8 PM in the Fulkerson Recital Hall on the HSU campus.

It's the capper on a big HSU music weekend, beginning with the HSU Symphonic Band performing on Friday at 8, also hosting the Eureka Symphonic Band.

Then comes the all-percussion program on Saturday at the Van Duzer Theatre: the HSU Percussion Ensemble playing classic but seldom heard works of Varese, John Cage, Steven Reich and Almadeo Roldan, followed by West African drummers, the Samba Band and the ever-popular HSU Calypso Band for the second half of the evening.

On Sunday, the Madrigal Singers sing Sondheim, Handel and others, and then the revelry continues with the Mad River Transit Singers, offering tunes from Simon & Garfunkel, Manhattan Transfer, U2 and The Wizard of Oz, plus jazz, swing and blues standards.

The music starts at 8 PM each night—Friday and Sunday in Fulkerson Hall, and the percussion program on Saturday in the Van Duzer Theatre. Tickets are $6 general, $2 student/senior, and free to HSU students with ID. For more information, check: http://HSUMusic.blogspot.com, or call the HSU Music Department at 826-3539.
