Non-league twinbill up next, then more CCAA action

This Week’s Games: The Lumberjacks are on their spring break road trip, with their first stop in San Bernardino, for a Tuesday 1:30 p.m. doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino. To finish off their week of travel, HSU travels to Seaside, for a three-day doubleheader series against Cal State Monterey Bay, with noon starts on Thursday and Friday and an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.

Last Week: The Jacks ended their undefeated California Collegiate Athletic Association streak as the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros swept the Jacks in two doubleheaders. Errors on the defense were the contributing factor to the Jacks’ losses as they committed 13 errors on the weekend. …Ashley Oltjenbruns, Natalie Galletly and Marissa Slattery had productive weekends at bat, contributing to HSU’s fight to stay in contention. Oltjenbruns led the team on the weekend with a .533 batting average, going eight for 15, posting one double and one home run and adding four RBIs. Batting just behind Oltjenbruns were Slattery and Galletly, with .467 and .400 averages, respectively. Slattery and Galletly both tallied six RBIs and two doubles on the weekend. … Lizzy Prescott made an appearance in the first three games pitching 21.2 innings, striking out 12 batters and giving up nine earned runs on 26 hits. Prescott now holds a 17-5 record and a 1.50 ERA after posting a 2.95 ERA on the weekend. Hannah Jones made an appearance in three games as she started the Jacks final game against the Toros. Jones pitched six innings, giving up four earned runs off of 12 hits in her lone start, to contribute to a 3.50 ERA on the weekend. Jones posts a 2-2 record and a 3.47 ERA on the season.

Lumberjacks Notes: After falling four times, the Jacks enter this week with a 19-10 overall and an 8-4 CCAA record. HSU still leads the conference, with Cal State Dominguez Hills in second place … Galletly tops the conference in slugging percentage (.721) and on base percentage (.518), while holding the No. 2 position with seven home runs and 30 runs batted in. …Slattery leads the conference with 11 doubles and freshman Nikki Ketteringham is in a four-way tie for seventh with seven. …Caitlin Klug makes an appearance in conference leaders at the No. 3 slot with 36 hits and the No. 4 position with 24 runs scored and is tied for fourth with nine stole bases. Lizzy Prescott tops the conference list in nine pitching categories and holds the No. 2 position in three.

Opponents’ Notes: First up this week is a non-conference doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino who enters competition fifth in conference with a 19-17-1 overall and a 10-8 CCAA record. The Coyotes went 1-3 in four games against San Francisco last weekend. … Jordan Dahl leads CSUSB with a .407 batting average, with 10 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 27 RBIs, and has also stolen 15 bases for 17 attempts. Dahl ties the team’s lead in doubles (10) with Ashley Collinwood. Collinwood holds a .351 batting average and leads the team with 33 RBIs. Leading the Coyotes with 11 home runs in Nicole Camrena. As a team, the Coyotes are batting .320 with 50 doubles, eight triples and 38 home runs. … Cal State Monterey Bay currently holds a 16-12 overall and 9-7 CCAA record to hold the conference’s No. 4 slot. The Otters went 2-1 last weekend as they defeated Oregon Tech 4-2 and Sonoma State 8-0 in five innings, while falling to Chico State 3-1. CSUMB possesses a .260 team batting average, with three players who break .300, while registering a 2.72 ERA. …The Otters’ double threat , at the plate and on the bases, is Casey Kaufman, who leads her team with 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. She’s currently hitting .271 with 17 runs on 26 hits and two doubles with three RBIs. …The Otters’ top hitter is Ashlee trotter, with a .361 batting average, five doubles and 19 RBIs.

Head-to-Head: Humboldt State leads the all-time series with Cal State San Bernardino, 23-6, is HSU, the most recent meeting a 7-5 HSU victory at the Mizunos Best of the West Classic, Feb. 1, 2008. … HSU is undefeated all-time against Cal State Monterey Bay, winning all five meetings. The Jacks last defeated the Otters 10-2 on March 12, 2007.
