Festivities will take place at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, Paddlefest’s official headquarters for land-based activities and classes. Water-based events will be launched from three docks to the east of the center, adjacent to the Adorni Center and Halvorson Park.
Saturday’s schedule will include a kayak fun race from Woodley Island to Samoa Bridge, live music, clinics and classes, a variety of expert demonstrations, vendor demonstrations and booths and food and beverages. New this year will be a Saturday evening slide show on sea kayaking in Greenland.
Sunday’s roster comprises the addition of a wacky Kardboard Kayak Race and many other water-borne activities. Awards will be presented both days to race and contest participants.
Admission is free for the event, attended last year by more than 1,500 people, including HSU alumni, students, local and regional water enthusiasts, novices and community spectators. This year’s festival will again be allied with the Harbor District’s Maritime Expo on Woodley Island and, also as before, the Madaket will furnish free water taxi rides between the two events.
