Studying

Do not let cramming become your last resort, take time now (yes, right now!) to review your notes, create flashcards and outline final papers and short responses on exams. You do not have to do this alone or unprepared. The University’s Learning Commons and a finals week study lounge are here to help.

Associated Students is hosting a study lounge during the first few days of finals week, complete with study supplies and snacks. It will be located in the South Lounge (below the Bookstore) and will go from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m. The study lounge will run from Monday, Dec. 15 thru Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Associated Students Vice-President of Student Affairs, Gabe Shames says the study lounge is there, “to provide a central place where you can go to study uninterrupted. The study lounge is a place that will stay open late and where you don’t have to worry about paying for food. We want to give students that last minute boost.”

Each night there will be a meal served buffet style. On Monday (Dec. 15) the focus will be on local foods, donated from the community. Tuesday night will feature a pasta bar, and Wednesday is “make your own taco” night. There will be vegetarian options each night and additional snacks throughout the evening.

Shames says, “It will be a rockin’ place to study. We are pooling community resources into one spot.”

From 6 until 9 p.m. the Learning Center will provide after-hour tutors at the study lounge who are proficient in a variety of subjects — from Anthropology to Zoology.

Students are encouraged turn to the Learning Center http://www.humboldt.edu/~learning/index.php throughout the academic year for group study sessions, one-on-one drop-in tutoring and to learn good testing strategies (see a plethora of handouts on study, test taking, writing skills and time management online and at the center.)

Take a Break

Enjoy a pancake “breakfast” served by faculty and staff on Monday, Dec. 15 from 8 – 10 p.m. in the “J” (third floor of the Jolly Giant Commons). The feast is free for all Humboldt State students.

Care Packages

If you live on campus you can blatantly urge your loved ones at home to get you a Finals Care Pack to support you through these tough times. The Residence Hall Association puts the Care Packages together. Order one for yourself!
