Returners Bring Experience To HSU Soccer

Arcata – With 20 players returning from last year’s team and a talented group of incoming freshman, Humboldt State head women’s soccer coach Andy Cumbo is ready to welcome back his squad for another season.

After filling out paperwork on Sunday, the 28-player squad will begin two-a-days on Monday, going through a series of fitness tests at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Cumbo will prepare his team for two exhibition games against Southern Oregon and San Jose State next Friday and Sunday before the official 2008 season opener at Western Oregon on Aug. 28. The Jacks will open their home campaign against the Academy of Art on Sept. 1.

“The two games will we be playing will give our players a chance to get to know the system we play and how each other play,” Cumbo said. “Southern Oregon has always been a competitive program and San Jose State should be a better team then they were last season.”

This season, both the men’s and women’s teams will play all home games at the Redwood Bowl due to construction at the HSU Soccer Field.
