All of Humboldt State’s fall sports programs travel for conference action this week, including the men’s and women’s cross country teams, both of whom will compete at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Men’s and women’s soccer, football and volleyball will be out of town form competition.
The lone home event takes place Saturday, when the HSU women’s basketball team offers a preview at its annual alumni game.
Cross Country measures itself at league meet
Having shown improved depth on both its men’s and women’s teams this fall, Humboldt State’s cross country teams will see how far that can take them when they compete at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships on Saturday in San Bernardino. Both squads hope to move up from last year when the women took eighth and the men placed fourth overall.
Football visits Bellingham, Wash.
First-year head coach Rob Smith travels back to the scene of his previous success when he and the Lumberjacks visit Bellingham, Wash. to face Western Washington on Saturday. Smith, who directed the Vikings’ program for 17 years, sends his team out on the Civic Stadium field at 1 p.m. Saturday for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference encounter.
Volleyball off to SoCal for two matches
Seeking a sweep of both season series, Humboldt State volleyball heads to Southern California this week. The Lumberjacks play Cal State Los Angeles on Friday and face Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson on Saturday. HSU defeated both squads at home earlier this fall.
Men’s Soccer makes final roadtrip
This week’s swing to the Bay Area marks the final regular-season roadtrip for the HSU men’s soccer team, with games at San Francisco State and Monterey Bay finishing the Jacks’ travels. They go up against the SFSU Gators at 12:30 p.m. Friday and battle the CSUMB Otters at 2 p.m. Sunday in Seaside.
Women’s Soccer heads toward stretch run
Only four games remain on the regular season schedule, and the Humboldt State women’s soccer team will have to get the job done on the road this week if the Jacks hope to qualify for the CCAA postseason. HSU travels to face San Francisco State at 3 p.m. Friday, then makes its way down the road for Sunday’s 11:30 a.m. game against CSU Monterey Bay.
