Status quo for Jacks in regional, national polls

ARCATA - After sweeping last weekend’s four-game series against UC San Diego, Humboldt State Softball continues to top the NCAA Division II West Region poll for the fourth week in a row while remaining at the No. 6 slot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 poll released Wednesday.

The Lumberjacks maintained their lead in regional rankings with a 40-14 overall and 28-13 in-region record. Two weeks remain in the regular season, with both the conference and regional tournaments to follow.

The top six of the eight schools listed in this week’s regional poll are affiliated with the California Collegiate Athletic Association. UC San Diego ranks at No. 2 with a 27-15 overall and 25-14 in-region record, and Cal State Stanislaus is third with a 25-19 overall and a 23-17 in-region record.

Humboldt State remains at the No. 6 slot in the NFCA poll for the second week in a row after moving up one spot last week. Among other CCAA schools listed this week, UC San Diego stands at No. 16 while San Francisco broke into the rankings at No. 25.

This week the Jacks travel to Rohnert Park to play Sonoma State University in a pair of league doubleheaders. Friday’s first game starts at 1 p.m. and Saturday’s gets underway at 11 a.m.
