Dr. Steven Steinberg of HSU's Environmental and Natural Resource Science Department has been selected President-Elect of the Northern California Region of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). The region includes members and chapters in Northern California, Nevada and Hawaii.
Founded in 1934, the society is a scientific association serving more than 7,000 professional members worldwide. Its mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and supporting technologies.
Dr. Steinberg has been an active member of the society since 1994. This May, he will co-present two papers titled Mapping Salt Marsh Vegetation in Humboldt Bay, California: Classifying Association Type and Percent Cover using Aerial Hyperspectral Imagery, and Community-based Disaster Response Design using an Open-Source GIS and a poster: Mapping Submerged Aquatic Vegetation: Using Multi-Range Spectral Feature Fitting to Map Deep Submerged Eelgrass in a Turbid Estuary at the Annual Meeting of the ASPRS in Tampa, Florida.
