Suspended HSU Building Projects Resume

Arcata – Humboldt State University has notified its contractors they can resume construction projects at the Forbes Complex and Nelson Hall.

Contractor employees are on site and Director of Plant Operations Tim Moxon said work is ramping up.

Shutdown and restart costs, estimated at $500,000, are being paid temporarily out of campus funds, but HSU expects the state to reimburse them eventually, Moxon said.

Construction projects were halted at all 23 California State University campuses on Christmas eve when the state froze $600 million in general obligation and lease revenue bonds that finance the projects.

The $2.4 million Forbes project includes construction of a plaza between the new Kinesiology and Athletics Building and Redwood Bowl. Nelson Hall is being refurbished with new electrical, heat and ventilation systems valued at $1.3 million.

The College Creek Apartments project was not affected by the freeze.
