The troupe and their singing, storming and slamming performance will be at Humboldt State in honor of women’s history month. Leading up to their performance, Salt Lines will also facilitate a workshop on writing, performance and gender theory from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Nelson Hall East room 106. This workshop is an opportunity to interact with the artists, hone skills, and strengthen one’s own voice. Both events free thanks to funding from the HSU Diversity Program, Associated Students and the HSU Women’s Enrichment Fund.
Salt Line’s performance is aimed at “slinging salt into the eyes of all that have ever silenced voices meant to be heard.” The show will consist of two hours of heart wrenching, culturally conscious and gender questioning spoken word.
The show represents some of the most respected talent coming out of the international Poetry Slam circuit: Andrea Gibson, Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion; Denise Jolly, Seattle Poetry Slam Co-host; Sonya Renee, Individual National Poetry Slam Champion; and Tara Hardy, Bent Writing Institute founder.
All of the performance’s participants are performers and educators and carry the message of creating change by honoring and expressing personal, cultural, and social history.
