“Humboldt State is once again leading its peers with the introduction of an innovative Bachelor of Arts degree completion program designed specifically for busy and working adults. The online program in Leadership Studies developed in collaboration with business and public sector executives is designed for aspiring leaders,” said Program Leader, Duncan Robins.
“Our goal is to develop dynamic and creative leaders.” explains Robins. “Our team of seasoned executives will shepherd students through a practical curriculum designed to help students discover, develop and practice their leadership capabilities, knowledge and skills. The reality-based assignments will connect the lessons in leadership with the students’ working world, making the curriculum interesting, immediately applicable and very valuable.”
Humboldt’s innovative Leadership Studies program comprises ten, 8-week courses. Each of the first nine courses focus on a specific set of leadership skills and experiences. In the tenth course, the “Capstone”, each student will assemble and present their work in a final Personal Development Project. In the first course students will identify this project and develop various components during subsequent courses. The project will likely be one that could improve the student’s current organization or local community. Faculty will help students find an ideal project for this valuable set of leadership experiences.
During the first course, students will also begin to develop a Career Development Plan. Various aspects of the CDP will be improved and implemented during later courses. With the encouragement and support of experienced faculty, the program provides an important set of experiences and tools that could change a student’s life forever.
