Continuing a tradition that began in the early 90s with the Y.E.S. House, this year’s Serve-a-Thon takes place on Monday, March 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
About 80 student volunteers will contribute nearly 300 hours to the Potawot Community Food Garden. The garden is a part of the United Indian Health Services program, which promotes access to healthy food for its members. Rain or shine, volunteers will roll up their sleeves for projects like native plant care, invasive plant removal, weeding, and beautifying the garden with chips and graveling, and more.
Students, staff, faculty and community members are welcome to volunteer during the Serve-a-Thon and can register here.
"For the past 56 years, Y.E.S. has empowered students to make a real difference in the community while developing leadership skills and lifelong connections,” says Melea Smith, Y.E.S. coordinator. “Our student-led programs give volunteers the chance to engage with local organizations, learn through hands-on experiences, and see the impact of service. It’s incredible to watch students grow, not just as leaders, but as individuals who are passionate about creating positive change.”
Y.E.S. offers students hands-on experience in teamwork, leadership, and community engagement. Hosting nearly a dozen student-led programs, Y.E.S. connects volunteers with local schools and organizations, fostering meaningful service opportunities.
Since its founding in 1968, Y.E.S. has launched over 70 programs to address community needs, including the MLK Day of Service and the Fall Day of Service. Through their involvement, students gain valuable skills, build friendships, find support, and embark on a journey of self-discovery.
