The new Cal Poly Humboldt SAFE App is user-friendly and features many new safety tools.
Cal Poly Humboldt is taking campus safety to the next level with the launch of Cal Poly Humboldt SAFE, a feature-rich app designed to provide real-time security and support for students, faculty, and staff. The app enhances incident response and provides innovative, powerful features for the campus community.

The new app will gradually replace RAVE Guardian, the previous safety app, throughout the semester, with full adoption by the fall. Users do not need to delete RAVE Guardian before installing SAFE, ensuring a seamless transition. Importantly, RAVE remains the University’s primary emergency notification system. The transition to Cal Poly Humboldt SAFE represents an exciting development in the University’s partnership with RAVE.

This shift is designed to elevate accessibility, functionality, and the overall safety of Humboldt’s campus community.

This SAFE App platform has gained traction among numerous institutions nationwide. Many universities that have embraced the app have observed enhanced engagement and interaction within their campus communities.

Cal Poly Humboldt SAFE offers a variety of features that go beyond RAVE Guardian, giving the campus community more tools at their fingertips, including:

  • Live Chat with Dispatch: Instantly connect with University Police Department (UPD) dispatchers in real time.

  • Easy Reporting: Quickly submit complaints or incident reports with just a few taps.

  • Campus Resources: One-click access to vital campus services, including the Academic Advising Center, Career Development Center, medical services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Peer Health Education, and more.

  • Campus and Tsunami Hazard Maps: Easily accessible maps to navigate campus and view inundation maps in preparation for potential tsunamis.

  • Friend Walk Feature: Allows users to share their real-time location with a friend who can monitor their walk to a destination and alert emergency services if necessary.

  • Mobile BlueLight: Mirrors the function of physical blue light emergency stations throughout campus, allowing users to call for help and share their location with authorities when activated. Mobile BlueLight instantly shares your location with UPD and initiates a call to dispatch with the press of a button.

  • Emergency Contact Directory: Includes direct contacts for UPD, Arcata Police Department, Eureka Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
