Campus Hosts 21st Annual Indigenous Peoples' Week

Humboldt State's MultiCultural Center hosts the 21st annual Indigenous People's Week, Oct. 10 to 17, with events held across campus.

The five-day event begins with a celebration on the quad marking this year’s Indigenous Peoples’ Week.

Other events scheduled include a film screening on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Native American Forum. Presented by members of the United Indian Health Service Teen Advisory Group’s, these recent media projects focus on tobacco and suicide prevention.

Also on Tuesday, Oct. 14, the 491’s, a collective of artists, filmmakers, writers, and language and culture advocates present a sketch-comedy performance at 7 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room.

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the Gordon Bussell presents “Native Languages are Alive” in the Native American forum (BSS 162). Bussell is a 2nd language acquisition speaker of Hupa who had many Elder teachers and linguistic input. His talk begins at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, a debate on the NFL’s Redskins football team takes place at 5:30 p.m. also in the Native Forum (BSS 162).

The week closes with an Indigenous Cultures Sharing Night at 6 p.m. in the Native Forum (BSS 162).
