New and returning learners can sign up for annual memberships (through July 2012) for $35. A friend can join for an additional $25. Faculty will share information about courses, and registration will be available on-site.
Fall class offerings will include a Humboldt Environmental Forum on Humboldt Bay, an Heirloom Tomatoes course on eating locally, and a Ray and Marie Raphael presentation on the nation’s Founders.
In a follow-up to his popular “Keep Moving” class, Humboldt State Kinesiology Professor Justus Ortega will offer “Seeking Balance,” providing OLLI participants with individual assessments of their balance and fall risks.
The OLLI Book Group will host a discussion Oct. 26 of the new Humboldt State/College of the Redwoods Book of the Year, The Help, by Kathryn Stockett.
Tracey Barnes Priestley and Valerie Gillett Bourne will present “The Second Half: a Lively Look at Life after Fifty” as an OLLI benefit on Oct. 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. at the Arcata Playhouse. Members who register for the related “What is on Your Bucket List?” course will receive a free ticket to the Friday night show.
In partnership with KEET TV and KHSU, OLLI will continue its “Share a Story, Record a Story” class. OLLI members also are invited to participate in the National Day of Listening and the general public will be welcome at the first “Tellabration,” celebrating OLLI storytellers, on Nov. 19 at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.
In addition, all OLLI members are invited to gather for lunch and conversation during monthly Art of Living meetings.
Last year, more than 1,050 participants attended OLLI courses and took advantage of membership benefits. A full listing of fall classes is posted at www.humboldt.edu/olli. A course booklet can be requested from the OLLI office at 826-5880. Sheila Rocker Heppe is program coordinator.
