Deadline Approaches for 2011 Economic Fuel Competition

Friday, January 28 is the last day to register for the 2011 Economic Fuel Student Business Challenge.

For the past five years, the Economic Fuel competition has been providing seed capital to help local student entrepreneurs realize their dreams of owning their own business. The competition officially launches each Fall and culminates in the Spring with $117,000 in seed capital awarded to eight winning teams. Past winners have included such local fixtures as Taraluna, Little Learner’s Preschool, Agogo, Humboldt Mobile Massage, Eden Home, Shred Tec and Sherlock Records Management.

“The competition is very unique for our area, and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to lay your cards on the table and go for it,” said last year winner and $25,000 recipient Corey Fitze of Sherlock Records Management. “The biggest thing I gained out of the competition was confidence. Your confidence grows throughout the competition, in your plan, and in your business itself. It’s a lot of work, but it is an opportunity to put your dreams into action.”
