For the past six years, Economic Fuel has provided seed capital to local student entrepreneurs. The annual competition awards $117,000 to eight winning teams to start a business in Humboldt County. Past winners have included Taraluna, Little Learner’s Preschool, Agogo, Humboldt Mobile Massage, Eden Home, Shred Tec and Sherlock Records Management.

A new program for Humboldt County youth is also accepting registration packets through Jan. 27. The Youth Entrepreneurship Program is offered through Shasta College and is hosting a Business Concepts and Video Elevator Pitch Competition for Humboldt County residents ages 14-27. Participants must answer business questions online and submit a 60- to 90-second video pitch promoting a creative business idea. Winners can earn up to $1,000.
