She will take the new role effective January 2, 2020, following the departure of Alex Enyedi, who was recently named President of SUNY Plattsburgh. His appointment is effective Jan. 21, 2020.
"Dr. Bond-Maupin is an extremely qualified and respected person. Her experiences as an associate dean, and twice as a college dean will guide her well as Interim Provost," said HSU President Tom Jackson. "She also brings a very important perspective and background through her work as a professor that will help HSU strengthen our work with students."
Rosamel Benavides-Garb will serve as Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. Dr. Benavides-Garb currently serves as Associate Dean of the College.
HSU will conduct a national search for a new Provost, with opportunity for input and participation from individuals across campus. Details of the search plan will be shared when they are finalized.
Lisa Bond-Maupin has served as HSU’s Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences since 2017. The College has 18 undergraduate and 4 graduate programs, and offers 85 percent of the general education curricula at HSU.
Dr. Bond-Maupin’s previous positions have included Founding Dean of the College of Social Sciences & Communication at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at New Mexico State University.
She holds a doctorate in Justice Studies from Arizona State University. She earned a master’s degree in Social Work at Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Missouri. Areas of research interest include youth justice systems; violence in the United States; art and hip hop-based youth violence prevention; program evaluation and organizational systems improvement; positive organizations; evaluation of student retention and student success initiatives.
Rosamel Benavides-Garb has served as Associate Dean of CAHSS and as Chair of the Department of World Languages & Cultures at HSU. He is a Professor of Spanish, and has been very involved in developing international programs.
Dr. Benavides-Garb holds a doctorate in Romance Languages from the University of Oregon, as well as a master’s degree in Modern Languages and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Oregon. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education from Universidad de Chile.
