Students from 77 classrooms will learn about recycling, wildlife rehabilitation, redwood forests, alternative energy sources, marine animals, and more from a variety of local public and private agencies, businesses, community-based organizations, and science teachers.
Third through eighth-grade students from across Humboldt County will view wild animals up close with the “Conservation Ambassadors, Inc.” live animal presentation and learn about ways to save the ocean from Ocean Annie during her “Our Ocean and You” presentation.
REEF is sponsored by the Humboldt County Office of Education and Suddenlink Communications, and will be held at Humboldt State University.
These organizations will also be providing students and teachers with a broad range of perspectives on various environmental issues:
Schatz Energy Research Center, The Bureau of Land Management, Northcoast Environmental Center, California Conservation Corps, California Dept. of Fish and Game, California State Parks, HSU Green Campus, Redwood Discovery Museum, City of Eureka, Redwood Community Action Agency, Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, North Coast Arts Integrations Project, California State Parks PORTS, HSU Natural History Museum, SCRAP Humboldt, Sequoia Park Zoo, and several local teachers.
The Redwood Environmental Education Fair is open to school classes by advance registration only and is not open to the public.
