So, what’s a Tweet-Up?
The popular microblogging and social networking Internet application Twitter allows people to communicate using typed words in real time—something akin to a global chat room. Users can microblog in 140 characters or less—a “tweet” in Twitter parlance — about anything and everything. Tweets can range from interesting web links, to the contents of one’s breakfast, to full-fledged conversations about salient topics. A Tweet-Up is a social gathering where folks can chat on Twitter, talk face-to-face and hang out. The HSU Tweet-Up will focus on academics, campus life and building alumni connections, but the conversation is open to discussing favorite Arcata hangouts or fond Humboldt memories.
“We liked the idea of getting students, faculty, staff members, alumni and friends of Humboldt State to come together and talk, tweet, exchange ideas and network,” says Greg Gehr, president of the HSU Alumni Association. “This will be a fun event where members of the HSU community can connect and build stronger relationships.”
James Clark, Prop Master for the hit television program Heroes and an HSU Theatre Arts alum, will be at the Tweet-Up sharing his Humboldt State experience and talking with students about building a successful career in the entertainment industry.
This free event features video games, prize giveaways and free pizza (until it’s all eaten and gone). Never used Twitter? Does the idea of a Tweet-Up trigger your complicated-technology alarm? Fear not, it’s actually really easy to use (no lie) and the only skills required are typing words and coming up with witty comments on the spot. Go to http://twitter.com to get started.
