The Center for Indian Community Development and the Native Culture’s Fund are sponsoring a free screening of KEET-TV’s “The Original Patriots,” a documentary featuring three local Native American veterans of World War II, on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Humboldt State University’s Behavioral and Social Sciences Building Forum room 162.
The documentary was inspired by the book of the same title written by Eureka-based author Chag Lowry (Pit River/Maidu/Yurok).
The three featured veterans will be guests of honor at the screening, where light refreshments will be served. They are Wally Scott, a Yurok tribal member who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps; Lee Hover, a Karuk tribal member who served in the U.S. Navy; and Frank Richards, a Smith River Rancheria member who also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
After the screening, Lowry will lead a discussion about American Indian veterans’ experiences and will sign his book.
