Guest Speaker Discusses Innovations in Teaching and Learning

The Humboldt State University Library hosts Kelly E. Miller, Director of Teaching & Learning Services and Head of the College Library at the University of California, Los Angeles Friday, Nov. 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Library Fishbowl and from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Library, room 114.

Miller will discuss a variety of initiatives at UCLA aimed at changing the nature of teaching and learning and the role of libraries. Her remarks will be based on her recent article “Imagine! On the Future of Teaching & Learning, and the Role of the Library.”

Miller is leading UCLA efforts to adapt library services and collections to meet campus priorities in the digital age. In January, she will join the University of Miami Libraries in Coral Gables, Florida, as Associate Dean for Learning and Research Services.

Miller holds a doctorate in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Michigan, and has taught at Michigan, Dickinson College, and the University of Virginia.

In 2004-2005, she held a Council on Library and Information Resources Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Virginia Library, where she later served as Research Associate for the Scholarly Communication Institute, Special Assistant to the Deputy University Librarian, and Head of Programs and Public Outreach for the Harrison Institute. Her work in libraries focuses on using special collections and digital technologies in teaching and learning environments.
