HSU Completes Test of Emergency Alert System

Humboldt State University completed a campus-wide TEST of its emergency audible alert system today, Thursday, Mar. 28th, from 11:45 a.m. to 12 noon.

There were NO evacuations; this was ONLY A TEST of our alert systems.

Throughout the day, you may have noticed “Test Today” signage on and around the campus, selected (clicked on) special-colored informational boxes on the http://www.humboldt.edu homepage, and heard public announcements on KHSU 90.5 FM and on 826-INFO (4636).

Between 11:45 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, you may have heard a two-tone high-low electronic alert sound, a public address announcement that this is a test, and a long steady tone that serves as an “all-clear” signal. You should have received an emergency text “TEST” message on your cell phone; and you would have seen changes on the HSU homepage during that period. If you didn’t receive the “TEST” message, please be sure that you have registered your current phone number and cell carrier for emergency text messaging through HSU’s online Account Center; FAQs about registration for this free service is at http://www.humboldt.edu/emergency/faqs#how.

In the event of a real emergency that affected most or all of the campus community, the alert and informational system will provide you with notice that there is an emergency condition, and with instructions as to what you should do. Remember that the best source for the most current, detailed information about any emergency affecting HSU is http://www.humboldt.edu/emergency.

If you have not yet registered your cell phone to receive emergency text messaging, an instructional link to do so is on the same site http://www.humboldt.edu/emergency.

Feedback concerning this test/drill may be submitted to response@humboldt.edu.
