Projects will include dune and native plant restoration, community gardening and emergency food box preparation. Among this year’s work sites are Arcata House, Friends of the Dunes, the Manila Community Services District, United Indian Health Services, Girl Scouts of the Sierra Cascade and Jacoby Creek Land Trust.
A Thank You Barbecue for volunteers, organized and sponsored by local Kiwanis Club Chapters Downtown Eureka, Henderson Center and Humboldt Bay, will be held at 12:15 p.m. in Eureka’s Sequoia Park.
The annual event is coordinated by Humboldt State’s Service Learning Center, United Way of Humboldt County and the Volunteer Center of the Redwoods.
Inaugurated in 1994, the first Day of Caring drew 150 volunteers in 15 local projects.
