HSU Hosts Latin Folklore Music Program

Arcata – Humboldt State University will host a special music performance celebrating Latin American heritage on Monday, Nov. 9, from 6-9 p.m. in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Native Forum, Room 162. It is free and open to the public.

HSU’s Department of World Languages and Cultures and Diversity Program Funding Committee will host musicians Rafael Manriquez and Ingrid Rubis, who will sing and play guitar, including charango, quena and zampoñas (from Bolivia), cuatro (from Venezuela), cajón (from Peru) and bombo (from Argentina) as well as many other folk instruments. Their music embodies Latin folk rhythms influenced by the Spanish, Native American and African cultures. Their lyrics dwell on the experiences of the peoples of Central and South America.

Samples of the music are available at www.rafaelmanriquez.com.
