Humboldt State University is investigating multiple members of the Men’s Intercollegiate Soccer Team for alleged hazing, as well as violations of student and athletic codes of conduct.
The investigation is focused on a recent party, where many of the players were present. Disciplinary action could range from written warnings to expulsion.
HSU’s Office of Student Affairs has taken the lead role in the investigation, with close cooperation from Intercollegiate Athletics.
University officials stress that they take these issues very seriously. Hazing is both illegal and violates the student code of conduct. Student-athletes receive education on hazing, and are frequently reminded that it is not tolerated.
A decision on disciplinary action is pending, and is expected next week. The University will make public general information about the decision, but details about individual sanctions will remain confidential.
